Seven people were rescued Sunday evening after their raft overturned on the Nisqually River, according to Lacey Fire District 3.

About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, fire crews were dispatched to the 5000 block of Muk Sut Wei Drive Southeast, between the Nisqually Red Wind Casino and the river. The rafters were found cold but unhurt, according to fire officials.

However, the situation could have been much more serious because the group was unprepared for the conditions, according to Lacey Fire District 3. They said the group did not have life jackets and had inadequate equipment.
