Flambeau River YMCA hires first executive director
PARK FALLS, Wis. (WSAW) - Scott Schultz will take the executive director role as the Flambeau River YMCA. The Flambeau River YMCA will include a childcare center, 24/7 fitness center, multi-generational room, group exercise area and community room. Construction is slated to start in summer 2024 with the facility opening in summer 2025. The YMCA of the Northwoods currently provides free afterschool and school-aged summer day camp as part of the 21st Century Grant with the Chequamegon School District.
Tree City USA adds Park Falls
PARK FALLS — The city of Park Falls has successfully completed the application process to achieve a Tree City USA designation. The city joins Phillips, Medford, Ashland, Washburn, Merrill and Spooner and other regional municipalities in maintaining the annual designation by working to maintain and improve tree habitat. Investigative files released in shoot-out that left a man dead near Rhinelander
The state has released investigative material in a shootout with police that killed a man just outside of Rhinelander in January. 33-year-old Steven Kincaid died in the incident. Pioneer baseball off to 1-2 start
The Butternut/Mercer Pioneers high school boys baseball team is now 1-2 at the start of the season in the Northern Lights Conference. The new head coach for the team this season is Cory Carlson. The Pioneers opened the season with a 28-2 home loss against Washburn, followed by an 11-7 home win against South Shore on April 9, and a 31-3 loss at Hurley on April 11. During the South Shore game the Pioneers scored 3 runs in the first inning, 4 more in the second and held a South Shore rally to 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the game. The Pioneers are scheduled to play at Mellen (0-2) on April 15, at Drummond (1-0) on April 22, and host Bayfield (1-0) on April 25.
