Art show raises money for Mississippi Valley Conservancy

    2024-06-21

LA CROSSE (WKBT)-- Caricatures, paintings and collectibles took over The Main on Thursday.

15 artists came together for Earth Invasion, an art show benefitting a local land trust.

"Having clean water is something that many of us take for granted. It's something you don't realize how good you have it until it's gone," Rick Ickler said.

Hosted by The Artsiders, an organization that promotes local artists, every so often they host events including art shows. But the proceeds don't only help them.

"Each show we have a different nonprofit that we're benefitting. We like to give back to our community and we like to pick local nonprofits that benefit our community," co-founder Maureen Smith said.

On Thursday, it was the Mississippi Valley Conservancy.

"Our first show of the year we raised $15,0000 for the La Crosse Suicide Prevention Initiative. Today we're hoping to raise that much and more," Smith said.

News 8 Now reached out to The Artsiders to find out how much they raised. We haven't heard back from them yet.

The Artsiders are trying to become a nonprofit. They hope to have a headquarters soon.
