This is the safest US city to drive in, new Allstate report shows
A new report is shedding light on which cities may be the safest after a year in which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates 36,640 traffic fatalities occurred in the United States. The data from Allstate Insurance Company's 2026 America’s Best Drivers Report ranks the 200 safest driving cities using insurance claims data to estimate how often drivers crash. The report highlights how dramatically crash risk can vary across U.S. cities, with drivers in some places going more than a decade between collisions, while others face far shorter gaps. At the top of the list, one city stands out again: Brownsville, Texas. The city, known as the home of SpaceX's Starbase, ranks No. 1 for the second consecutive year, with drivers averaging nearly 15 years between collisions. In contrast, Boston remains No. 200 and is the most collision-prone city, with drivers there crashing far more frequently. The report shows a strong regional divide, with Texas and several Western cities dominating the safest rankings, while the Northeast appears heavily in the riskiest group. It also points to major year-over-year movement, suggesting that traffic patterns, congestion and driver behavior can shift quickly. Here's a look at Allstate's safest and most dangerous
