Hilo high debate team represents Hawaiʻi Island at top state tournament
Four students from Hilo High School represented Hawai’i Island at the 2024 Hawaii State Debate Tournament on Oʻahu this month. The tournament, which was hosted by Kamehameha Schools- Kapalama on April 6th and 7th, was open to high school students who qualified by winning a series of debate rounds at a local district tournament. Union Says Big Island Wastewater Plants Are Dangerously Understaffed
A union representing Big Island wastewater treatment plant employees say their working conditions are unsafe due to deteriorated equipment and low staffing levels. The aging plants in Hilo, Papaikou and Kulaimano are included in an administrative consent order recently signed between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Hawaii County that aims to bring the facilities into compliance with federal environmental law.
