(KRON) — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Central Division said an Oakland man was arrested and $227,000 worth of fentanyl was seized during an enforcement stop.

CHP said the incident happened Sept. 18 when a sergeant pulled over an Audi Q7 on I-5 and discovered the driver did not have a license and spotted several signs “hinting at the possibility of criminal activity.”

While searching the vehicle, the sergeant said he found “roughly five pounds of fentanyl powder,” which carries an $227,000 estimated street value, hidden into a paper bag.

Officials said Anthony Cruz, 24, of Oakland, was taken to Fresno County Jail and was charged with “possession of fentanyl for sale and transportation of fentanyl across non-contiguous counties.”
