London Breed ‘should be too ashamed to run' for re-election as SF mayor, Andrew Yang says

SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — Former United States presidential candidate Andrew Yang has some strong opinions about San Francisco and its mayor, he shared on KRON4 News Monday.

When asked if any of this year’s mayoral candidates interested him, Yang responded with criticism of London Breed.

“I would say that if you’re a city that’s undergone the challenges that San Francisco has, you should not be voting for the incumbent. Let me say that,” he said. “I think the incumbent should be too ashamed to run, and the fact that she could prevail again is a sign of just how insular and dysfunctional our politics are.”

Yang said the biggest issues facing the city include public safety, crime and education.

Yang has loose Bay Area ties, as his parents met while in graduate school at UC Berkeley. He said he loves San Francisco, but “it has seen better days.”

“San Franciscans deserve better leadership than you’ve been getting,” he said.

Breed is up for re-election after leading San Francisco since 2018. Other candidates include former mayor Mark Farrell , philanthropist Daniel Lurie , supervisor Aaron Peskin , and supervisor Ahsha Safai.

Yang was a Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential election before he suspended his campaign . He then founded the centrist Forward Party, which aims to reduce political polarization.

He stopped by KRON4’s studio on Monday to discuss local and national politics.
