The American Red Cross is helping 48 people who were displaced after a fire at an apartment complex in Northwest Dallas on Thursday afternoon.

Dallas Fire-Rescue units were called to the Stone Manor Apartments in the 3100 block of Park Lane at 1:23 p.m., officials said. When crews arrived, they saw fire coming through the roof and called for a second alarm for support.

A three-alarm request was made after a part of the apartment complex building's roof collapsed and efforts were made to bring the fire under control. The fire was extinguished at 2:48 p.m.

Two people sustained minor injuries, but Dallas-Fire Rescue said it did not transport anyone to the hospital.

The blaze damaged 14 units and displaced 48 residents. The American Red Cross said nearly 40 of those people, five cats, and one dog stayed at a shelter on Thursday night at the Bachman Recreation Center.

The Red Cross said the shelter would stay open until 2 p.m. Friday.

One things for sure, 14 buildings and 48 folks is way to many people to be displaced due to old ass apartments and not having to bring to code for whatever reason!! smfh

maybe if the city would actually do real inspections or pay attention to residential complaints about wiring and other safety issues it would not be such an issue. those some of us realize the politicians and the landlords simply don't care!
