Management has also proposed changes affecting health insurance and employee rights during layoffs. Workers are seeking a 3% wage increase to match the cost of living, compared to the 1% and 1.5% increase proposed by management in addition to their protected benefits.Employees considering a walkout are not professors or instructors, but instead those who manage daily operations, including dining services, administrative support, janitorial staff and others. The potential strike would impact both Southern Oregon University in Ashland and Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls. The University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Portland State University, Western Oregon University and Eastern Oregon University would also be affected.Union leaders say their priority remains reaching an agreement without a work stoppage, but members are prepared to strike if negotiations do not result in what the union considers meaningful movement from university management.© 2026 KOBI-TV NBC5.
