Three people are dead after a crash on K-96 near 13th Street in east Wichita Friday night.

It happened around 7:25 p.m. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by 48-year-old Amanda Fleming, of Wichita, was headed eastbound in the westbound lanes of K-96. Her vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle, driven by 31-year-old Randall Henrickson of Rose Hill. The force of the collision caused Henrickson's vehicle to spin around striking a third vehicle, driven by Charles Loges of McPherson.

Henrickson's vehicle became engulfed in flames and came to rest on the north shoulder of K-96, while Fleming's vehicle came to rest on westbound K-96.

The second collision caused a trailer to be torn off the hitch of the vehicle driven by Loges, and it came to rest on its side in the north ditch. Loges' vehicle skidded across the median and came to rest on eastbound K-96 facing east.

Fleming was pronounced dead at the scene, along with Henrickson and his 11 -year old passenger.

Loges and two other people in his vehicle were treated for minor injuries.

It's not clear why Fleming's vehicle was going the wrong way.
