Habitat for Humanity of Marion County is building a Knoxville family a new home at 502 West Rock Island Street.

Project Manager Jay Weldon tells KNIA/KRLS News they are nearing the end of the project with around five weeks to go. The Knoxville High School Construction Trades Class worked four days a week on the new home.

He said when school was let out for the summer the construction reached a certain stage, “So we got to the point where all the drywall was done inside the house and we had just started doing a little bit of the siding and their school year ended at that point.”

Weldon said there is still plenty to do such as interior painting, trim work, cabinets, flooring, painting exterior and grass or sod outside. Weldon said a lot of people have offered their support in finishing the home.

The Habitat for Humanity home has been built for new homeowners Nikki and Kenndal Cunningham. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held at the site of the new home in October.
