mural-4

Love Where You Live is a passion project sparked by love for the community and the desire to make Knoxville the best place it can be.

The community was invited to attend the unveiling ceremony at the Auld Park Thursday. The Auld Park was the site of the first mural for the city. A good crowd was on hand for the event.

This summer, two murals created by local artists will be added to Knoxville’s scenery and they unveiled the first mural Thursday. The first mural was commissioned by Hannah Vander Veer, local Realtor, and THRIVE Knoxville. THRIVE Knoxville and Vander Veer are financially supporting and planning the first mural.

The artwork was completed by local artist Amber Klootwyk. The mural is located on the shelter house at Auld Park located at the corner of Second and Reno Street.

Klootwyk tells KNIA/KRLS News she has been painting her entire life. She talks about the mural and how long she has been working on the project, “I would say almost a year ago Hannah reached out to me to talk about some murals and adding art to the town. She had some questions about the logistics and what that would all look like, so we worked together to bring this to life. I designed a big group of options of different murals that  I could go to different places.”

It was announced that the next mural will be located at 629 West Pleasant Street. It is a building owned by Jim and Brenda Sperr and will be on the former John’s BBQ building.
