A 33-year-old man from Melcher-Dallas was charged with two felonies and a serious misdemeanor from an incident that took place Sunday in Knoxville.

James Orville Morris, Jr., was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Third or Subsequent Offense; and Failure to Affix Drug Stamp, both felonies along with a charge of Operating While Under the Influence, 1st Offense, a serious misdemeanor.

A Knoxville officer stopped a vehicle that was allegedly driven by Morris at 3:18 a.m., Sunday. Morris was placed under arrest for driving while suspended. The officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. After an investigation Morris was charged with Operating While Under the Influence. The K9 alerted officers to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle and Morris was charged with Failure to Affix Drug Stamp.

Located inside the vehicle was allegedly a plastic baggy containing methamphetamine which weighed out to 17.3 grams. Morris was placed under arrest.

As is the case with any arrest a person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
