The Knoxville School Board met Monday night in regular session.

The board approved the certified budget for publication with a notice of a public hearing and adoption of budget and taxes. The public hearing will be set April 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the school board meeting. The meeting will be held for those individuals who might have any questions concerning the proposed budget.

Knoxville Business Manager Craig Mobley, tells KNIA/KRLS News “What everybody I think wants to know is what our proposed tax rate will be. Our current property tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value is $16.98 and our proposed property tax rate going into 2023-2024 will be $16.85 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. So that will be around a 14 cent per $1,000 decrease in property tax rate.”

Also on the agenda was the second reading of board policies. School Superintendent Cassi Pearson, tells KNIA/KRLS News that some of the board policies were updated due to legislation and new requirements.

A Career Week Video was shown discussing the students that took part and the many presenters. There were a couple of new teachers hired. Lauren Creger will become the new high school math teacher while Will Lee will be the new science instructor. The approval of an agreement for Pleasantville students interested in joining the Knoxville trapshooting team was included on the consent agenda.

The meeting closed with a strategic planning workshop. As the school works on a strategic plan for the next four to five years.
