One possible strength for the Knoxville Girls Track and Field Squad this season may be the sprints to the distance races. Coach Michael Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they have got several freshmen from a middle school program that had success last spring, plus junior and senior leadership to show the younger runners what high school track and field is like.

Splavec: “Young kids, a lot of freshmen will be able to help this season. Hallie Baker had a sdtrong middle school season last year, along with Callie Landis. On the distance side, Natalie Collins is back and she had a solid cross country season and she is helping the younger kids out in that department.”

Collins is coming off an all-conference performance in the cross country season and was an important part of the girls basketball program this past winter. Knoxville was supposed to travel to Indianola for a meet at Simpson College, but that trip has been canceled. Knoxville’s first official outdoor meet is next Thursday at Clarke.
