A Kirksville service club got to tour the Adair County Courthouse on Wednesday morning.
Adair County Presiding Commissioner Mark Shahan led a tour for the Kirksville Optimist Club around the building.
He talked about the improvements the courthouse has received over the past couple of years.
Some of those improvements included new windows, new HVAC system, flooring and upgrades to the elevator were part of the project.
An $8 million loan was used for most of the project.
American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding was used to improve the building's elevator.
The loan will be paid off through a quarter-cent sales tax that passed in April 2021.
The assessor, collector and recorder offices are now back at the courthouse.
Courthouse proceedings will resume there in a couple of weeks.
The treasurer and the clerk are scheduled to move in around July 1.
Shahan hopes a ceremony celebrating the completion of the project and the anniversary of the cornerstone takes place in July.
