KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The Down East Wood Ducks continued to play good baseball as they picked up a 9-1 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday at Grainger Stadium.

Down East (8-5) held Delmarva (1-12) to five hits thanks to the work of five pitchers who combined to strike out 12. The Wood Ducks scored five runs in the first three innings to blow the game up quickly. They got a run on a stolen base, a walk and a balk.

Down East’s season has already been streaky with four wins to start the season, five losses to follow to the Carolina Mudcats and now four straight over Delmarva. The two teams continue their series Saturday at 5 p.m. Gates open at 4 pm. Join the Wood Ducks for Pepsi Saturday. There will be a pregame Touch-A-Truck event with the fire department and police department participating. Also, the first 1,000 fans will receive a Wood Ducks World Series-themed T-shirt jersey presented by Piggly Wiggly.
