KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an apparent suicide happened inside the county jail on Tuesday.

A 38-year-old Pink Hill man, Christopher Shawn Tyndall, was found unresponsive and was taken to UNC Lenoir Health Care where he later passed away.

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office reports Tyndall was being held on the following charges that were issued on May 25:

  • Assault inflicting serious bodily injury
  • False imprisonment
  • Non-support of a child

The NC State Bureau of Investigation has also been called in to investigate, which is standard procedure in cases like this.
