In case you haven’t heart, Kingsport is the home of the Original Long Island Iced Tea (LIIT).The drink came into existence in the 1920s during prohibition in the United States when Charlie “Old Man” Bishop invented the concoction while living on Long Island in Kingsport, TN. Some 20 years later, his son, Ransom, who was said to have operated a still on Long Island, tweaked his father’s original recipe by adding lemon, lime and cola.

June 6th is celebrated as Long Island Iced Tea Day. To celebrate Kingsport’s history with this drink, Visit Kingsport has created a Long Island Iced Tea Trail. Along with the unveiling of the mural, local restaurants, bakeries and specialty stores are offering their own LIIT creation during the month of June (see attached). Not every item offered is boozy. While a few on the list feature the cocktail, others have cupcakes, pizza, olive oil pairings and even chicken wings based off of the LIIT recipe. Check out the full menu below, and enjoy the LIT Trail all month long!
