2023: Challenge and progress in Lake Tahoe (Opinion)
The slow march toward winter at Lake Tahoe this year is starting to make last winter seem like a distant memory. However, reflecting back on a year of both challenges and wins for the lake and our communities, it would be impossible to leave out the 70-year record snowfall Tahoe received last winter. The crushing series of atmospheric rivers brought emergency conditions that tested the basin, but when it came down to it, we saw people and agencies digging in to help one another dig out.

25-cent cup, container fee to go into effect January 1, 2024
TRUCKEE, Calif. – Starting January 1, 2024, a 25-cent fee will be applied to each disposable cup and food container provided for to-go orders at food establishments in Truckee. Like the disposable bag fee at grocery stores, the 25-cent fee is intended to incentivize customers to bring their own reusable cup or food container.
Gospel and roots music collide with the Blind Boys of Alabama
Since 1939, the Blind Boys of Alabama have been recording and writing some of the most memorable gospel music in the U.S. The group has its roots at the Institute for the Negro Deaf and Blind in Talledega, Ala. and since then, has performed with some of music’s most celebrated artists, including Mavis Staples, Stevie Wonder, Tom Waits, Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, and Bon Iver. They are currently on tour and will be bringing their mix of Christmas and Gospel tunes to Nashville Social Club in Carson City on Dec. 14.
