Monday’s strong winds sparked several wildfires across Kansas Monday afternoon.

Crews battled a 3 mile long and 3 mile wide grass fire that began in northern Kingman County and spread into southern Reno County. Officials said the blaze broke out near US-54 and 110th Ave.

The Kingman County Emergency Manager reported that calls were made for aid from surrounding counties. The grass fire was eventually brought under control, but burned roughly 1,500 acres. Crews remained on scene into Tuesday.

Firefighters in Sedgwick County also battled another blaze that broke out at 85th and 127th, and spread across nearly 10 acres.

Another wildfire in Riley County was reported as well along Deep Creek Road, burning close to 400 acres and threatening homes. The Kansas Forest Service contracted aircraft to make water drops coordinated by personnel on scene, while the Riley County Board of Commissioners declared a local disaster emergency for the county.

As of Tuesday, no injuries or structural damage was reported.
