Kilgore police subdue intoxicated rifle-wielding man near Kilgore College
KILGORE, Texas (KLTV) - One person is in police custody following a shooting near the Kilgore College campus
According to a Kilgore police officer on-scene, one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the incident, which took place around 1 p.m. at an apartment in the 500 block of Martin Street near the intersection of Houston Street.
According to a Facebook post from the Kilgore Police Department, officers initially responded to reports of a possible drive-by shooting, but when they arrived they discovered what was taking place was actually an assault.
Officers found an agitated man holding a rifle, appearing to be intoxicated. The post says that during an altercation with a woman the man fired his weapon once inside the apartment and once outside but did not strike the woman.
Police de-escalated the situation and got the man to put down his weapon before they tackled the suspect to prevent him from grabbing one of the other weapons in the room.
The suspect will be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possibly other charges.
