HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Police Department is hiring, and there’s an opportunity this Friday to join the department at a recruitment and career fair. HPD joined Wake Up 2Day on Thursday morning to share details about the event and opportunities.

“The Honolulu Police Department is holding a Recruitment and Career Fair at Ka Makana Alii in Kapolei on Friday, September 20 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is a great time to speak to officers and learn more about the various career opportunities within the department – you can even apply on site,” Officer Cody Kodama said.

There are lots of positions available for those who are seeking a career.

“We have sworn and civilian positions available,” Sergeant Walter Espiritu said. “If you’re looking to become a Metropolitan Police Recruit, you must be at least 20 years old at the time of application with a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. You must be able to possess a firearm and have a valid driver’s license. Civilians positions include our Police Communications Officers (formerly known as dispatchers), criminalists in the Scientific Investigation Section (the HPD crime laboratory), and other administrative positions. Additional information is available on our website: www.joinhonolulupd.org.

Civil service is a reason to join the force, but so is money. Officer Kodama says starting pay for recruits is $83,000 with bonus opportunties.

“The Honolulu Police Department offers a unique and fulfilling career path. You’ll have the opportunity to make a direct, positive impact in our community. The department also offers competitive salaries, health benefits, and retirement plans. If you value public service, enjoy diverse environments, and are looking for a meaningful career with growth opportunities, the Honolulu Police Department could be a great fit for you.”
