Public assistance needed in deadly Waikapu shooting

WAIKAPU, Hawaii (KHON2) — Maui police are reaching out to the public for information on a deadly shooting in Waikapu.

Officials said the early morning incident happened on Monday just after midnight near the intersection of Honoapiilani Highway and Waiolu Place.

The fatal shooting incident led to the death of 42-year-old Lahaina driver Shawn Lewis.

“The Maui Police Department extends our deepest condolences to Mr. Lewis’ family and friends. The cause of death is pending autopsy,” said MPD in a press release.

Maui investigators are now working on piecing together the sequence of events.
