Key West, FL - A federal law enforcement officer in Key West has been arrested for stalking and physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

The officer, identified as 38-year-old Scott Dale Hatfield, was arrested by Key West Police on Wednesday following allegations of stalking and physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

The incident unfolded when officers from the Key West Police Department responded to a disturbance report at the Winn-Dixie located at 2778 N. Roosevelt Blvd.

The victim, who had recently moved out of Hatfield's residence, informed police that Hatfield approached her inside a gym in the same shopping plaza.

Hatfield, who works as a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer on the island, proceeded to follow the victim as she walked towards her car.

According to the police, Hatfield held the car door open after the victim got inside and refused to let her leave.

The arrest report states that he forcefully pushed her into the car on two occasions when she attempted to exit.

Hatfield ceased his actions after a nearby construction crew noticed the commotion and shouted at him, prompting him to walk away.

Following the incident, the victim made her way to Winn-Dixie and contacted 911.

During questioning, Hatfield admitted to the police that he had followed his ex-girlfriend to her car and had placed his hand in the car door to prevent her from closing it.

Screenshots provided by the victim revealed that Hatfield called her 11 times on Monday.

Additionally, she presented a series of text messages sent by Hatfield after she explicitly instructed him to stop contacting her.

In response to Hatfield's arrest, a spokesperson for U.S. Customs and Border Protection released a statement confirming the officer's arrest and that he's been placed on administrative duties while an investigation is conducted.

Hatfield is scheduled for arraignment in Monroe County court on June 7th, as indicated by jail records.
