AG, DA want to halt recommendations for man in mental hospital for 2015 killing
There could be a halt in a recommendation to allow a man who killed his father to have day passes from the state’s mental hospital. Christian Costello has spent the last six years at the hospital, called Oklahoma Forensic Center, in Vinita. A recommendation by a treatment team at the hospital would allow Costello day passes, which would give him supervised treatment sessions at outside facilities.

New Ottawa County judge sworn in
MIAM, Okla. – Ottawa County attorney Andrew Meloy was sworn in as Ottawa County Special Judge on Monday. Meloy takes over from the retiring Becky Baird. A former attorney with the Hartley Law Firm, Meloy also served as the municipal judge for Fairland, Wyandotte and Afton communities.
Cherokee Nation opens severe weather assistance sites
Members of the Cherokee Nation affected by recent severe weather can now apply for assistance at one of several sites that just opened. The Cherokee Nation opened locations in Claremore, Catoosa, Jay, Salina and Colcord. To apply for assistance, the Cherokee Nation said you need to verify your address and have a Cherokee Citizen in the household. Citizens can only apply one time per address and you can’t have already applied at another site. The following locations will be open from June 3rd to June 7th:
