Best in Kentucky voting reaches final day

HORSE CAVE, Ky. – While plenty of personalities and businesses from around the state are nominated in this year’s Best in Kentucky Awards, two local favorites are competing this year. Kentucky Down Under is nominated for the Best Kid-Friendly Attraction and would love to win their first award.

“We’re up against some heavy competition this year, the Louisville Zoo, the Ark. They’re fantastic attractions, so we need all the help we can get,” Brian Dale, Marketing Director at Kentucky Down Under says.

Meanwhile, another local restaurant is looking for back to back wins for the Best Hamburger in the state.

“This is we’re going on year five. And for us to be nominated last year was a total shock because we’d never even heard of Kentucky Living magazine, because we just work. And, you know, and for that to happen was really, really cool. And being nominated again, it’s an honor,” Jackie Kulaga, an owner of Five Broke Girls says.

The girls are originally from Texas and came to Horse Cave to bring a little Texas kick to South Central Kentucky.

“We’re from Fort Worth and we like spice, which brings the kick. And when we started, there was a kick. Now it’s not so much because some people does, you know, they don’t like all that, but that’s what it is. And just a different flair to food,” Kulaga says.

Mammoth Cave National Park is also up for nomination, along with Horse Cave’s KOA Campground and WNKY’s own Morgan Hoover. The voting period ends May 31 and you can visit kentuckyliving.com to vote for your favorites.
