More “greenways” and bike access proposed on certain La Crosse streets
The city of La Crosse held meetings with the public on Tuesday, to get reactions to possible changes in the local bicycle and pedestrian master plan. The two open houses on the transportation plan took place at the public library on Main Street, where they showed maps of where changes could be made to encourage more bicycle use. City leaders are looking at Green Bay Street and Redfield Street as east-west corridors that could be improved for people who like to bike and walk. “That can often include some kind of traffic circle, a curb extension, sometimes a raised intersection,” says associate city planner Jenna Dinkel. “We’re in a planning stage, which means we don’t necessarily have funding for any of these projects.”
