65th Shrine Bowl overcomes delays, South beats North by 10

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The 65th Nebraska Shrine Bowl kicked off Saturday at UNK’s Ron & Carol Cope Stadium. Despite battling poor weather conditions and lightning delays, the game was able to play to completion.

Team South beat North 17-7 and scored 17 unanswered points to do so.

UNK football coach Ryan Held attended the game and watched several future Lopers play in the Shrine Bowl. His dad, Fred Held, played for the South Team in 1964.

”They asked me if they can play in it and I said, ‘Absolutely,’” Held said. “I think it’s great to be able to get this experience and finish out your high school career. And then that just helps catapult them into getting ready for college stuff. Obviously, Kearney is first-class with everything we do and so being able to have this many people here is really big for our community.”
