Kearney man sentenced for having guns while using drugs

KEARNEY, Neb. (KLKN) – A Kearney man will spend 21 months in prison after law enforcement raided his house and found illegal drugs and firearms.

U.S. Attorney Steven Russell said 29-year-old Tyler Ray Tockey was sentenced on Thursday.

He pleaded guilty during his trial in November to being an unlawful user of controlled substances while in possession of firearms.

After his prison sentence, he will be on supervised release for two years.

On March 24, 2022, law enforcement raided Tockey’s residence in Kearney after serving him a warrant.

They found firearms, ammunition, marijuana and methamphetamine.

Tockey was the only person who lived there and admitted to officials during the investigation that he had many firearms and was a consistent user of marijuana and meth.

The Kearny Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives all worked together on the case as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program.
