Elderly Kearney Man Escapes With Minor Injuries In Sunday Accident

An elderly Kearney man was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after hitting an Interstate guardrail and rolling down and embankment Sunday morning in Clay County.

Troop A of the Highway PAtorl says 87-year-old Kearney resident Darrell D. Peters was driving a 2022 Chevy Trailblazer southbound on I-35 at mile-marker 19 when he approached traffic that was congested due to an unrelated stalled vehicle.

The Peters Trailblazer went off the right side of the Interstate where it struck a guardrail end and rolled down an embankment before coming to rest.

Peters was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and escaped with just minor injuries. He was taken by Liberty Fire to Liberty Hospital for treatment.
