WARRENSBURG — Kearney track and field in the competed in the Class 4 Sectional 4 Championship hosted by Warrensburg High School on Saturday, May 20. The top four participants in each event qualified for this weekend’s Class 4 State Championship.

The Eagles girls soccer team put up a good fight in their state quarterfinal match against Lafayette (Wildwood) but unfortunately could not manage to advance. Liberty’s varsity squad played the Lancers on Saturday night, May 27, after being crowned district champions following their 3-0 triumph in the final versus Francis Howell Central on May 19. It was their first district title since 2019 and the second in school history.

KEARNEY — In May 2003, the “Matrix Reloaded” was the No. 1 movie in America. In addition to the country falling in love with Keanu Reeves, during that time Kearney baseball was the talk of the town as the school’s latest team to earn a district championship.

The boys team scored 71.50 points and the girls team scored 67 points.

RIVERSIDE — The 50th season of Liberty baseball came to a close in the district tournament. The Blue Jays were ousted by Staley in the Class 6 District 8 Semifinals May 18. The Falcons defeated Liberty 5-3 to advance to the district championship. Staley eventually lost to Liberty North.

Boonville baseball’s season ended at the hands of Excelsior Springs in the MSHSAA Class 4 quarterfinals Thursday, as the Tigers swatted the Pirates 7-2 in Boonville. The Pirates entered the fifth inning scoreless and down four runs and were unable to eat into the deficit.

The top four participants in each event qualified for this weekend’s Class 4 State Championship. Smithville’s boys team finished in third place in the team standings with a score of 105.50. The girls team finished in seventh place with 49 points. The sectional meet was hosted by Warrensburg High School.
