    Memphis man jumps on moving garbage truck to flee shooter

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say that two men have been arrested after a man was critically injured during a shooting and jumped onto a garbage truck to get away.

    On September 3, officers responded to an aggravated assault that occurred in the 1000 block of Isabelle.

    Police said they spoke with a victim at Macon Street and Salem Street who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

    A witness told officers that after hearing multiple gunshots outside, he saw the victim being chased by an armed man. The victim was seen jumping on the side of an occupied City of Memphis garbage truck in an attempt to escape the assault.

    As the garbage truck fled, the male suspect continued to fire shots at the victim.

    Officers spoke to city employees who were at the scene. All of the employees said that the victim was being chased and shot at by a man dressed in a gray hoodie and dark-colored pants.

    The garbage truck was struck several times by gunfire. Another victim’s car was struck by gunfire during the assault as well.

    Investigators interviewed the victim at Regional One Hospital. During the interview, the victim said he contacted Cameron Kelley, 18, who told him to meet him in the 1000 block of Isabelle.

    During the encounter, the victim saw Kelley armed with a black handgun.

    The victim said that Kelley allegedly shot him and chased him through the neighborhood. The victim said he jumped on a garbage truck to escape the assault as Kelley continued to allegedly shoot at him.

    Kelley fled in a blue Nissan Altima.

    Surveillance video taken at the time supports the victim’s account of the incident.

    Investigators were contacted by the Tillman Precinct and were told that Cameron Kelley wanted to turn himself in and speak with investigators.

    He admitted to firing shots at the victim and chasing him through the neighborhood.

    He added that he fled the scene in a Nissan Altima belonging to his friend Treyvion Short.

    Short told investigators that he picked Kelley up and drove him to the 1000 block of Isabelle. He said that he saw Kelley meet with the victim and shoot him.

    He admitted to picking up Kelley after the shooting and fleeing the scene.

    Kelley and Short were arrested on Friday.

    Kelley has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, four counts of reckless endangerment, vandalism $1000 or less, vandalism $2,500-$10,000 and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

    He is being held on $150,000 bond.

    Short was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, four counts of reckless endangerment, vandalism $1000 or less, vandalism $2,500-$10,000 and employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony.

    He is being held on $85,000 bond.
