WICHITA—Law enforcement authorities have accused a number of U.S. Service employees in Kansas of theft over the past five years.
On Wednesday, a federal grand jury in Wichita returned an indictment charging a Kansas woman with stealing gift cards from the mail as an employee of U.S. Postal Service, according to the United State's Attorney.
According to court documents, Paula Kendall, 39, of Haysville was indicted on three counts of theft of mail by postal employee for allegedly stealing mail between November and December 2022.
This is the fifth time in recent years an employee connected to the U.S. Postal Service has been accused of mail theft.
In 2018, a Kansas City, Kansas post office supervisor was sentenced for mail theft. In 2019, a Rose Hill, Kansas, truck driver for the post office plead guilty to mail theft. Also in 2019, the U.S. Attorney indicted postal workers from Marysville and Salina for mail theft. In 2020, a mail truck driver from Fort Scott, Kan., pleaded guilty to two counts of mail theft.
