Travis Kelce reveals what he wanted to say at White House podium

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is known as a bit of a prankster.

So when President Joe Biden stepped away from the White House podium during the Chiefs’ visit to Washington, D.C., earlier this week, Kelce seized his moment with an empty podium and a live microphone. Fortunately, quarterback Patrick Mahomes intervened before Kelce did anything disconcerting.

But during the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast that Kelce hosts with his brother Jason, the All-Pro tight end admitted what he really wanted to say to the crowd before Mahomes ushered him away.

“Obviously, the President at the podium, it’s iconic,” Kelce said. “How he usually addresses the nation: ‘To my fellow Americans.’ That’s all I wanted to say. That’s it. I just wanted to go up there — I shouldn’t have started off with ‘I’ve always wanted to do this.’”

“That’s all you wanted to say?” Jason asked. “If you would have started off with ‘My fellow Americans,’ that would have been such a show-stopper.”

After posing for a photo with Biden and Mahomes, Kelce slyly stepped away and saw his chance. Mahomes, with his quick reaction, grabbed Kelce and moved him back in line with the rest of his teammates as he offered a quick apology to the cameras.

“Pat knew that I was in over my head,” Kelce admitted. “Shoutout to Pat for keeping me from embarrassing myself at that podium in front of the world.”
