KMBC. LAWRENCE POLICE STOPPED A STUDENT AT FREE STATE HIGH SCHOOL AFTER REPORTS OF A GUN IN A BACKPACK. THE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER OVERHEARD STUDENTS TALKING ABOUT IT. POLICE SPOKE TO THE STUDENTS INVOLVED. ONE RAN AWAY BUT WAS LATER STOPPED

Students were reportedly overheard in a bathroom saying that they were in possession of a firearm

Police reportedly found no gun Tuesday morning at Free State High School after rumors spread of a firearm possessed by several students. FSHS's school resource officer learned that students were overheard in a bathroom discussing a gun. Police and school staff contacted the involved students, separated them from their backpacks searched for a potential weapon that was never found. According to police, one student got scared and ran from the building during questioning.They were detained and later released. The SRO determined there was no safety threat, and no students were at risk.
