Adderall shortage impacting Kansas City, but conclusion may be near, FDA says
For parents of kids with ADHD and adults using the drug Adderall, it’s been a challenging six months of trying to find it.
However, according to the FDA, the drug shortage is about to end.
Adderall is used to help people focus. It’s also used to help with depression, dementia, and even narcolepsy.
“You can have some nervousness in ability to focus irritability," said Kristi Stice, a doctor of pharmacology at University Health. "You could also have some changes in your appetite even sleep disturbances."
The FDA says the shortage stems back to October 2022, when there were some manufacture challenges, but now it's due to increased demand.
Stice said there are generic options similar to Adderall that may affect frequency of use, but said to make sure you get it through the pharmacy.
The shortage is expected to end by the end of March or first of April.
