A special prosecutor has been appointed for a case involving Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper.
David Wandling, the Logan County Prosecuting Attorney, has been appointed to handle the case of the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office sought to be removed due to conflict of interest.
Wandling was appointed to the case by the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorney's Institute on Monday.
A criminal investigation into an incident involving Carper, 71, was launched after Metro 911 received a call from a woman at Daniel Boone Park on Monday, May 15, who told dispatchers that a man had exposed himself to her.
Police responded to the call and spoke to Carper and the woman who made the 911 call. Police sources have indicated that no citations or arrests were made.
Carper was recently released from a Charleston area hospital after undergoing quadruple bypass surgery the same week as the alleged incident.
