Around 12:20 a.m. on Sept. 21, 2021, police were called to LakeView Apartments in Kalamazoo regarding a shooting , as Front Page Detectives reported.

Investigators determined 24-year-old Jayshaun Bishop believed Mitchell had stolen his dog.

However, he denied being involved in the shooting when police questioned him.
Bishop will now spend up to 50 years in prison for the shooting. UNSPLASH On Sept. 18, Bishop pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony firearms in connection with the 2021 murder of Mitchell, MLive reported.

Judge Ken Barnard sentenced Bishop to 23 to 50 years in prison for second-degree murder and two years for felony firearm, authorities said.
As part of the plea agreement, Bishop will serve the firearm sentence before the murder sentence begins.
