Progress has been made at the new Edison Academy location.
An update was provided by Director of Facilities Karen Jackson, during the Kalamazoo Public Schools board meeting Thursday night.
"The new building has been under construction for nearly two years and hopes of completion are soon," Jackson said.
Some parts of the building are still under construction, including the lobby, the front desk area, some of the classrooms and hallways, according to Jackson.
"We don't want carpet, we want simple and classy and don't want to overdo it," Jackson said. "This composite flooring that we put in the classrooms is going to make a big difference."
Even a piece of the old building made its way into the new one.
"A wooden clock on the wall in the lobby has been repurposed from the old building and installed in the new one," Jackson said.

Hallways are also still in the process of being polished, according to Jackson.
An early childhood playground has also been installed with soft padding that is good for 10-15 years, Jackson said.
Students are expected to be moving to the new school this fall, according to Jackson.
In a school board meeting last month, the school district changed the name of Edison Environmental Science Academy to Edison Academy.
