KALAMAZOO, MI – A fire scorched part of the Kalamazoo County Justice Facility’s roof on Thursday afternoon.
A fire started on the roof of the new courthouse, 335 Eleanor St., around 3:45 p.m., June 8. Flames and black smoke were seen on the southwest corner of the roof, MLive/Kalamazoo Gazette reporters witnessed.
The $95 million courthouse is still under construction. It was supposed to be done by September, officials said in March.
Construction workers extinguished the fire shortly after it started, reporters witnessed. Three firefighters arrived on the roof about 10 minutes after the fire was extinguished.
The fire left a black scorch roughly 15 feet wide by 10 feet tall.
There is no additional information about the fire available at this time, Kalamazoo County Administrator/Controller Kevin A. Catlin said.
