HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating the cause of a building fire that broke out in Kailua on Monday afternoon.

Officials said the call came in just after 1 p.m. when it was reported that smoke was coming out of a two-story residential structure on North Kalaheo Avenue.

The City issued a road closure for North Kalaheo Avenue between Makua Street to Kuunui and Kuulei Road to Kainalu Drive.

Ten HFD units responded to the incident. Reports said the first unit arrived at the scene around 1:08 p.m. and began preparing for an offensive fire attack.

HFD was able to secure a water supply and get the fire under control by 1:57 p.m. before fully extinguishing flames at 2:06 p.m.

Firefighters conducted a primary and secondary search of the structure and confirmed there were no occupants home at the time.

Officials are investigating the initial cause of the fire, its origin and the damage estimate.
