Duncan Middle School principal accused of kicking his wife
ARREST. SCHOOL DISTRICT LEADERS SAY THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL HERE AT DUNCAN MIDDLE SCHOOL IS NOW IN CHARGE OF CAMPUS AFTER PRINCIPAL PHILIP D’AMICO WAS ARRESTED FOR BATTERY LAST NIGHT. INVESTIGATORS WITH JUPITER POLICE SAY THEY WERE CALLED TO PHILIP DEMARCO’S HOME IN JUPITER LAST NIGHT AT ABOUT 825 WHERE THEY SAW THE DUNCAN MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AND HIS WIFE OF 30 YEARS ARGUING OUTSIDE THEIR FRONT DOOR. WHEN POLICE INTERVIEWED D’AMICO, HIS WIFE, SHE TOLD THEM HER HUSBAND THREW A PICTURE AT HER AND KICKED HER IN THE LEG. SHE ALSO TOLD POLICE SHE WAS, QUOTE, AFRAID FOR HER SAFETY AND THAT SHE WAS SCARED AND THAT SHE WANTED HIM TO LEAVE. POLICE ALSO SAY SHE AT ONE POINT TRIED TO REVERSE HER STORY WHEN OFFICERS TOLD HER. PHILIP D’AMICO WOULD BE ARRESTED, BUT THEN SHE STUCK WITH HER ORIGINAL STATEMENT. INVESTIGATORS SAY PHILIP D’AMICO TOLD DETECTIVES THE ARGUMENT WAS OVER INFIDELITY AND THAT HE DENIED KICKING HER OR THROWING A PICTURE AT HER. HE WAS THEN ARRESTED AND LATER RELEASED FROM JAIL ON HIS OWN RECOGNIZANCE. IN A STATEMENT SENT TO DUNCAN MIDDLE SCHOOL, PARENTS AND STAFF TODAY, THE DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT SAID IN PART, QUOTE, MR. D’AMICO WAS ARRESTED LAST NIGHT ON A BATTERY CHARGE THAT IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO THE CAMPUS OF WATSON B DUNCAN MIDDLE SCHOOL. WHILE IT IS NOT THE DISTRICT’S PRACTICE TO SHARE DETAILS OF AN OPEN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION, WE WILL SAY THAT A THOROUGH INQUIRY INTO THIS ISOLATED INCIDENT IS UNDERWAY. MR. D’AMICO HAS BEEN REASSIGNED TO A NON-STUDENT CONTACT DEPARTMENT. HIS NEXT COURT APPEARANCE IS SET FOR MONDAY, APRIL 17TH.

The principal of Duncan Middle School has been charged with domestic battery after police say he kicked his wife.Now, that principal has been reassigned to a different school district job, pending the results of the School District of Palm Beach County's internal investigation into what happened.Investigators with the Jupiter Police Department say they were called to56-year-old Phillip D'Amico's home in Jupiter on Wednesday at about 8:25 p.m. after someone from the residence called 911 and then hung up the phone.Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WPBF 25 NewsWhen officers arrived, they say D'Amico's wife exited the home and told them she didn't want her husband to be arrested. D'Amico and his wife then began arguing in the doorway about what had happened before officers arrived.More officers then arrived to investigate the scene. She then told officers that D'Amico threw a picture at her and kicked her in the leg, and that this behavior had been repetitive. Investigators say when officers told D'Amico's wife he would be arrested, she attempted to reverse her story before sticking with her original statement.Officers say Phillip D'Amico told them the argument was over his wife being unfaithful and "other marital matters," but he denied kicking her or throwing a picture at her.He was arrested with no further incident. He was then released from the Palm Beach County jail on his own recognizance. He appeared in court on Thursday and his next court appearance is set for April 17.
