    No charges to be filed in Joplin Police Officer-Involved Shooting

    JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — Capt William Davis of Joplin Police says last week the investigation was complete in the February 9, 2024 Officer-Involved Shooting on West 7th. They were then submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office.

    JPD’s internal investigation had already determined the officer acted appropriately.

    As protocol on February 9 they requested the MSHP to process the crime scene and investigate as an outside agency.

    Jasper County Prosecutor Theresa Kenney tells KOAM’s Shannon Becker she received the report and her office determined charges are not warranted in the case.

    SHOOTING NEAR WEST 7th & SERGEANT

    Joplin Police were alerted the morning of February 9 of a suspicious individual near 7h and Sergeant Ave.

    Joplin Police Officer arrived on scene and encountered the individual. The officer discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect once in the hand/wrist area.

    Only one shot was fired by the officer. Aid was immediately rendered to the suspect until EMS arrived on scene.

    West 7th was closed for investigation nearly three hours.

    The individual suffered a non-life-threatening injury. He was placed on a 96-hour mental health evaluation hold.
