Mustangs rally to beat Joplin in back-and-forth game Thursday

The St. Joseph Mustangs overcame a three-run deficit late to top the Joplin Outlaws 9-6 on Thursday at Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joseph (5-2) scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning, but Joplin eventually led 5-2 by the sixth.

Down 6-4 in the middle of the seventh, the Mustangs scored five runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good.

Savannah native Braden Berry got the win on the mound in four strong innings of relief. He struck out seven while allowing just one hit, two earned runs and three walks.

Offensively, Trevor McCollum went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Bishop LeBlond alum William Dryburg scored a team-best three runs. Savannah alum Noah Bodenhausen went 1-for-4 with three RBIs.

The Mustangs face Joplin again on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Phil Welch Stadium. Gates open at 5:30.
