JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Just after 3:30 a.m. early Saturday morning, March 25, 2023, Joplin Police officers observed a Nissan Rouge near 7th and Jackson driving without headlights.
As a patrol officer attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle failed to yield and fled. A pursuit was then initiated as a possible DWI driver.
We are told the vehicle was driving erratically traveling west on 7th, then north on Schifferdecker, leaving the city limits. Shortly afterwards the SUV crashed in Belleville, an unincorporated community SW of Carl Junction.
Tpr A.J Cook of the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells us the vehicle was traveling westbound on State Route P, failed to negotiate a curve, went off the left side of the road, struck a tree. The Nissan then caught fire.
The driver, male, 14-years-old, of Webb City, Mo. suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
Carl Junction Fire Dept responded to extinguish the car fire.
It is unknown what charges the yet-to-be-licensed teen will face. The vehicle was not reported stolen. It belongs to a family member.
Metro Towing removed the vehicle from the crash scene.
