Jacksonville State football opener vs. Coastal Carolina gets new date, adds another midweek game
Jacksonville State football opening game of the 2024 season has a new date. The Gamecocks will start their season on a Thursday when they host Coastal Carolina in the home opener. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday. It is the return game of a home-and-home that saw the Gamecocks fall to the Chanticleers 30-16 last season.
Coastal Carolina athletic director Hogue, ex-football coach Moglia changing roles
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Coastal Carolina’s Matt Hogue, in charge of the athletic department for the past 10 years, will move to a new role at the school this summer while former football coach Joe Moglia will give up his positions as chairman of athletics and executive director of football once the new athletic director is hired. The school announced Friday that Hogue will lead the school’s development of a center for sports broadcasting. His last day with athletics will be July 15. Coastal Carolina said in a statement a search for Hogue’s successor as vice president for intercollegiate athletics and university recreation will begin immediately. Moglia has served in his roles since retiring as football coach after the 2018 season. He will remain as executive advisor to Coastal Carolina president Michael T. Benson.
