(Coralville, Iowa) – Officials in eastern Iowa report a young adult received a ticket for more than $300, Tuesday, after a sheriff’s deputy clocked a vehicle at 107-mph. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy met a teen driver and their passengers early Tuesday morning, on Interstate 380. The 18-year-old driver explained they “just wanted to have some fun.” In addition to a $308 fine, the driver faces a possible license suspension.
Authorities say in 2020, speed was a factor in 31% of the passenger vehicle teen drivers (15-18 years old) involved in fatal crashes. Teen drivers have also been found to be two-and-a-half times more likely to engage in one or more risky behaviors while driving with one teenage peer.
