Village of Jerome sees bright business prospects ahead, even as liquor license issuing has been halted

The village of Jerome sees bright business prospects ahead, despite some self-imposed limitations on certain types of development. Village president Mike Lopez says at his request, Jerome has halted issuing new liquor licenses.

That’s because a liquor establishment can quickly add video gaming, and Lopez says he doesn’t want an oversaturation of gaming machines in the village.

Jerome had also hoped to land a cannabis dispensary, but that hasn’t happened. Lopez says lack of space and zoning issues make it unlikely to land another type of cannabis business like a craft grow operation.

But he says there could soon be new activity at the former Shop ‘n’ Save location, as Niemann Foods is considering a new non-grocery retail business there.
