The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During reports, County Information Technology Director Michelle Fields said she is moving forward with purchasing new phones that will be installed in the Greene County Courthouse starting next month. 

Greene County Emergency Management Coordinator Doug Hawn gave an update on the new emergency communications tower project in Seven Hills Park. He said a soil test for the site of the tower was recently done and is waiting for the results, along with waiting for the results for the environmental study. 

A NationalGrid Renewables representative gave an update to the Board. It was mentioned that they have addressed the issues that the Board of Adjustment made about the emergency response plan for the solar panel project near Grand Junction, and the reason why they permit was first denied. The representative said they are re-applying for the permit this week, but that there have been positive interactions with county officials.

County Engineer Wade Weiss reported that he hopes to have the new front entry door installed to the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower before the Bell Tower Festival happens later this week. He also said there will be a pre-construction meeting before the asphalt overlay road project happens on County Road E-57, which is anticipated to start around July 1st.

Supervisor Chair John Muir announced County Auditor Jane Heun’s intention to retire on July 14th after almost 22.5 years of service.

The Board then set a public hearing on June 26th to propose selling property at 300 South Wilson Avenue in Jefferson that the county owns. County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen said that a company, Triple S Properties in Dedham, Iowa, was interested in purchasing the property to build a small apartment complex. She proposed selling the property for $500.

The Board also approved a renewal with Cott Systems for a three year agreement with a rate of $195 per month for the Hosted Online Index Books and three disabled veteran property tax
